Work Towards What You Want, While Being Happy With Where You're At

You know that saying that's like, "work towards what you want while being happy with where you're at?"

Easier said than done, but it's REALLY important. We all have visions for what we want our lives to look like, and that's important too, but we can't get there unless we appreciate where we are TODAY and enjoy the present. I think there are two signs of failing at this idea.

  1. We constantly look ahead, so much so that we're not appreciative of our current situation. We fixate on that idea of what we want, without ever really taking the time to slow down and reflect on if it's TRULY best for us. We have feelings of guilt when we do anything that doesn't seem on the direct path to that next big goal. We forget to enjoy little things in life because that goal consumes us.

  2. Or, we make excuses for our current situation. We tell ourselves we don't have what it takes yet. We turn our blinders on to the small details around us in the present that just might open a few doors to get there. We let the excuses consume our minds instead, and don't take the small steps to get to what we want because of them.

I used to do a little of both. It wasn't until my life got a little flipped around that I started to slow down and enjoy the present.

“We make excuses for our current situation.”

We tell ourselves we don’t have what it takes yet.

Fast forward a few years, and now here I am about to workout in my living room/kitchen. Not a glamorous spot to train, but it works. Today, I try not to make excuses that stop me from moving forward on something because I've realized the only way is to DO, right now, where you're at. Embrace it. All the ducks don't have to be in a row before you can start making progress. This applies to fitness, but I really don't want to talk about fitness all the time. It's not my entire life. So apply this concept to your entire LIFE.

Do you find yourself making excuses when it comes to doing the small things that you know you need to do to get to that big thing? Do you tell yourself you're not capable enough yet? Or that you don't have what you 'need' yet? Or that your time might as well be spent doing something else?

Work, hustle, keep grinding, but embrace your today. And don't let discomfort, minor non-ideal circumstances, or your mind convince you that you shouldn't embrace where you are while you strive.

Xo,
